Mother killed, children hurt after suspects flee police

PINELLAS PARK- Two drug suspects have been charged with the death of a mother, also injuring her children and another adult.

Thursday night, Pinellas Park Police were conducting a drug sting operation in a parking lot. The suspects took off when cruisers closed in to make the arrest.

The two ran a red light at US Highway 19 and 70th Street, crashing into another vehicle. The impact killed 32-year-old Nachenga Robinson. Another adult, and three of Robinson’s children were injuried.

The suspects took off on foot, and were later apprehended by police. They are identified as 20-year-old Devonta Merriex, who was driving, and 21-year-old Rashane Barber. Both have extensive prior criminal records.

The victims are from Florence, South Carolina, and were visiting the area.
